The route has confirmed vegan food at Spey Bay, Nethy Bridge, Boat of Garten, Aviemore and Newtonmore. The thin carry is the middle around Rothes, Aberlour and Ballindalloch. Buy two days in Buckie when walking south, reset at Aberlour and Grantown, and pre-order a vegan packed lunch from KJ's Bothy Bakery if it suits the itinerary.

Practical vegan planning
Local food worth trying
Baxters publishes a current vegan list for some pickles, beetroot, chutneys and one soup; read the exact product label. Macsween labels its vegetarian haggis suitable for vegans, but ask for dairy-free mash. Whisky is generally ingredient-simple, yet cream liqueurs and honeyed products are exceptions. A distillery's location or Scotch law does not confirm every finished drink.
What to buy
Use Buckie, Aberlour, Grantown and Aviemore for the main shops. Co-op branches appear frequently but vary in chilled vegan stock, so buy plant milk, protein, breakfast and a cold dinner at the larger stops. The Spey Larder at Aberlour is a useful deli lead. KJ's Bothy Bakery in Grantown takes dietary requirements for pre-ordered packed lunches with at least 48 hours' notice.
Good places on the trail
Spey Bay: the Scottish Dolphin Centre cafe's own page confirms vegan options. Fochabers: Gordon Castle's current menu marks vegetarian, not vegan, so ask what can be adapted without dairy. Craigellachie to Ballindalloch: current operator vegan detail is sparse; carry food from Aberlour. Grantown: KJ's Bothy Bakery can prepare dietary-requirement packed lunches with notice. Nethy Bridge: Nethy House confirms vegan options and willingness to accommodate requirements. Boat of Garten: Anderson's confirms an evening vegan menu. Aviemore: the Old Bridge Inn confirms varied vegan options on a changing menu. Newtonmore: the Wild Flour confirms vegan options; Antlers has several recent vegan reports but no operator statement. Older Mountain Cafe advice is stale because that Aviemore cafe closed.
Trail treats
Choose products on Baxters' current vegan list or a cake labelled vegan at Nethy House or the Wild Flour. Do not infer that an oat bake or whisky dessert is vegan.
Where to restock
Southbound, leave Buckie with two days, top up in Aberlour before the quiet middle, and reset in Grantown and Aviemore. Northbound, reverse those points and buy in Grantown for Ballindalloch and Rothes. Fochabers is a top-up, not a substitute for the Buckie shop. Carry breakfast and an emergency dinner wherever the overnight kitchen has not confirmed a vegan meal.
Things that may not be vegan
Check butter in mash and baking, meat stock in soup, cream or honey in whisky desserts, ghee in South Asian food and isinglass in cask beer. Vegetarian menu markings do not establish vegan preparation.
